    Job Summary

    To provide journeyman level skills to preform painting. Responsible for preparing surface for painting, applying paint to machinery, equipment, furniture and interiors and/or buildings by spraying gun or brush.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Mix, blend, match and apply paints, faux finishes, varnishes, shellacs, enamels and other finishes. Erect or rig scaffolds as well as work off high lift, ladder and scaffolds or rigs.

    • Prepare surfaces for painting including:

    • Tape, Bed and Texture, Scrape, sandpaper and size surfaces, apply stripper, move furniture, caulking.

    • Cover surfaces and furniture( move when required) to protect from paint.

    • Remove spattered paint after job is completed.

    • Clean and care for brushes, spray guns and other equipment.

    • Report need for carpentry repairs.

    • Paint all surfaces using all finish type materials.

    • Stain door cabinets , apply finishes and sprays, patch and apply wallpaper & vinyl, apply epoxy and other high performance finishes, paint safety stripes, paint sign bollards, light poles, paint, install and remove signage, traffic/parking marking paint & devices as well as erect traffic barricades.

    • Demolition work.

    • Assist other shops including housing, graffiti removal, chalkboard restoration & white board cleaning.

    • Operate all power tools necessary for duties required.

    • Responds to on-call emergencies before/during/after normal hours of operation. This includes but not limited to:

    • Fires, electrical outages, floods, icy conditions and any other type of campus emergency.

    • Drives a UTA vehicle.

    • Considered essential personnel.

    • Performs other duties assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School diploma with three (3) years of skilled/journeyman level experience.

    • Three (3) years of industrial and/or commercial painting experience.

    • Three (3) years of taping, bedding, and texturing experience.

    • Valid class c driver's license (or other states equivalent for driving a personal vehicle).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Five (5) years of skilled/journeyman level experience.

    • Five (5) years of industrial and/or commercial painting experience.

    • Five (5) years of taping, bedding, and texturing experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Skill with tools of the painting trade, including the use of brushes, scrapers, spray guns and sanding equipment.

    • Ability to effectively execute oral and written instructions.

    Other Requirements

    Working Conditions

    • Must be able to work off of ladders, scaffolding, and tops/roofs of buildings.

    • Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as bio hazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases dust, dirt, and the need to work in confined spaces, extreme cold or hot and all weather conditions.

    • Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
