    Job Summary

    To provide semi-skilled level installation, maintenance, testing and service of electrical systems. Responsible for the prompt performance of assigned electrical and related duties.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist journeyman electrician in the demolition of existing and installation of new electrical renovation projects throughout the campus.

    • This includes panels, outlets, switches, luminaries and installing conduit and wire for new feeders and branch circuits.

    • Assist journeyman electrician installing new electrical services to buildings and extending old services. This includes: The removal of old feeders, underground trenching to location, pulling in new feeders and removing old switchgear and installing new.

    • Assist journeyman electrician to install and maintain transformers, generators, control panels, switches, circuit breakers, outlets, fixtures, fittings and accessories. This includes: installation of luminaries, tracing out electrical circuits, installing new generators and ATS, installing new transformers, installing conduit and circuits for new outlets and lighting.

    • Installs and repairs underground electrical conduit and wire for pole lighting and services. This includes: Digging or running a trencher for new underground conduit, repairing broken conduits, tracing out underground damaged wires, replacing with new and locating underground electrical for DIGTESS.

    • Assist Journeyman electrician with installing and repairing magnetic starters, disconnects and motor rated switches for HVAC and plumbing equipment, ballast and tombstone for fixtures, flood and street lighting. Replace light bulbs.

    • Installs electrical conduit and wire per National Electrical Code for new renovations and research equipment.

    • Respond to on-call emergencies before/during/after hours of operation. This includes: Fires, electrical outages, floods and icy conditions. Must be able to identify the problem, plan for the appropriate action, communicate severity and fix the problem.

    • Assist with the installation of electrical for special events. This includes: Concerts, student move-in, homecoming, graduation ceremonies, Special Olympics, special dinners, student welcoming day, sporting events and other student activity events.

    • Must be able to pass and maintain yearly training. This includes: Electrical continuing education, hazardous communication, security training, drivers education, first aid training, asbestos training, boom lift training, scissor lift training, bucket truck training, NFPA 70 training and forklift training.

    • Performs other duties assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent experience with One (1) year of documented experience in the electrical trade with progressive responsibility toward journeyman level work.

    • Must have Texas Electrical Apprentice License before starting employment and be familiar with NFPAA 70,101 and 1.

    • Valid Texas Driver's Licence.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Capable of using meters and related equipment.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of computer-based work order system.

    • Knowledge of electrical material. Use of hand and power tools common to the electrical trade.

    Other Requirements

    • Alertness and careful attention are required to avoid injury to self and others.

    • This role is considered an essential position; therefore, it may be necessary to report to work when essential personnel are required to respond to campus.

    Working Conditions

    • Conditions do involve exposure to all weather elements and medium to high voltage electrical.

    • Must be able to work off of ladders, scaffolding, and tops/roofs of buildings.

    • Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as biohazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases dust, dirt, and the need to work in confined spaces, extreme cold or hot and all weather conditions.

    • Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, stand, sit, kneel and squat.
