    Division Description:

    This is a Union environment that has an employee base comprised of 30 and 40-year veterans as well as employees more recently hired.     POSITION SUMMARY

    Performs complete assembly of standard products and sub-assemblies which require a thorough understanding and knowledge of welding techniques, materials, tools, machines, and equipment under regular supervision and training. May also perform sheet metal assembly/welding tasks including, but not limited to: joining surfaces using a variety of welding methods, repairing parts of metal or other weldable materials, applying the appropriate welding process, preparing metal parts/products for paint, installing insulation, sanding/grinding/drilling, and a variety of other sheet metal assembly functions as assigned.

    Performs duties as specified by work orders, blueprints, diagrams, and layouts, using a variety of hand and power tools. May train lower grade level personnel and accomplish tasks with one or more helpers. Work must be inspected for conformance to specifications and performed with adherence to all safety rules and procedures.

    Position Functions/Responsibilities

    • Knowledge of and adherence to all department and plant safety rules and procedures.

    • Perform work that meets quality inspections and production efficiencies and requirements within the classification.

    • Operate all in-house welding equipment and welds, to Despatch welding standards, all construction metals used including aluminum and stainless.

    • Ability to read, understand and work from blueprints, layouts, and other work orders/instructions.

    • Operate a variety of power tools, hand tools and lifting devices used in the fabrication and assembly process.

    • Proficiently use math skills necessary in transferring print information to the fabrication process.

    • Proficiently use measuring tools to assure the work performed meets release documentation.

    • Understand material flow, job packets, and how to access job information.

    • Frequently stand for prolonged periods, lifting/moving of up to 40#, pulling, pushing, reaching, grasping, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling and climbing ladders. Occasional lifting/moving of products 80# with assistance.

    • Self-motivated, ability to work under regular supervision.

    • Displays positive attitude and can work in a team environment.

    • Keep work area clean and orderly according to Despatch policies.

    • Other duties applicable to the position as assigned.

    Requirements

    • Previous welding experience or equivalent technical school training

    • Demonstrated success with MIG/TIG welding

    • Basic blueprint reading

    • Ability to meet deadlines

    • Ability to work in a team environment
