    This position offers a hybrid work schedule which includes telework days and in office days at a DLI office building.

    This position administers the provisions of the State Plumbing Code by providing plan review and technical assistance on documents submitted for new construction, additions to, and alterations of plumbing systems for all building types except single family homes, two family homes, townhomes, and multi-family homes with 4 or fewer dwellings. The code review requires determining if the proposed work complies with the Minnesota State Plumbing Code, referenced standards, administrative provisions of the Minnesota Building Code Chapter 1300, and the principles and practices of common engineering to protect the health and safety of the people of Minnesota.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A Structural or Mechanical engineering degree from a 4 year accredited college.

    • Knowledge of engineering principals associated with technical and engineering review of planning, design and construction, permitting, compliance evaluation and enforcement of applicable rules.

    • Ability to read plans and specifications sufficient to identify code inadequacies and analyze and respond to specific code application inquiries on the telephone and in writing.

    • Technical writing skill with the ability to write plan review comments and general notes on a plan review response letter. Assess and convey corrections required for re-review or to clarify policies, procedures or requirements not made clear in the proposed construction documents.

    • Customer service skills such as ability to advise clients regarding code interpretations, application and permitting processes.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or common experiences.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).
