  • General Summary

    The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment including, but not limited to cranes, snowplows, dump trucks, sweepers, power shovels, loaders, and large industrial tractors. The Operator uses equipment to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, snow, and other materials.

    This is a rotational position working 3-on and 1-off schedule, located at Eareckson Air Station (EAS), Sheyma, AK. While working on-site housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility. All meals are furnished through the cafeteria. Transportation to EAS from Anchorage, AK is provided by government sponsored aircraft.

    Essential Duties and Job Functions

    • Operate heavy equipment attachments including, multipurpose buckets, forklifts, wenches, booms, impactors, and grapplers.

    • Operate heavy equipment to haul, dump, spread, excavate, backfill, level, and grade various soil and stabilizing materials.

    • Operate heavy equipment to excavate and backfill underground utility installations.

    • Determine the rigging and loading securing methods and devices following OSHA and DOT standards.

    • Interpret and grade slope stakes, sketches, and plans.

    • Use proper hand and arm signals to direct and spot equipment operators.

    • Operate equipment for sweeping runways, taxiways, roads, parking areas, etc.

    • Grade gravel and dirt roads.

    • Repair runway, taxiway, ramp, and road surfaces.

    • Determine necessary materials, tools, and equipment.

    • Perform preventative and daily operator inspections and maintenance and report discrepancies to supervisor.

    • Remove snow from road and pavement surfaces using various types of snow plows, snow blowers, sweepers, and other equipment.

    • Use and maintain tools and equipment.

    • Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and emergency repairs to equipment.

    • Respond to operational situations.

    • Serves as Fuel and re-supply barge augmentee.

    • Perform duties for the Emergency Response Team.

    • Perform related work as assigned.

    Requirements :

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    • Certified Heavy Equipment Operator.

    • Certified Crane Operator.

    • Four (4) years of experience with heavy construction-type equipment

    • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

    • Pass a National Agency Background Check with Inquires.

    • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

    • U.S. citizen

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous experience working on a military installation.

    • Previous experience working in a remote location.
