    American Lighting and Signalization (ALS) provides street lighting and traffic signalization construction, maintenance, and emergency response services in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. Our major customers include state departments of transportation (DOTs), investor-owned and municipal utilities, commercial retail land developments, and commercial road contractors.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    • Must be able to drive and operate a Digger Derrick truck.

    • Excavates to assist in the installation of structures or cables as required by contract specification.

    • Will have contact with public and private property owners to communicate the work to be performed.

    • Operates various tools for the work (manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, come-a-longs, jackhammer, hand-line, etc.).

    • Must use meters and other testing devices on secondary voltages up to 600 Volts.

    • Assists with assembling materials and work from the ground.

    • All other duties as required or requested by Supervisors.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must be 18 years of age or older.

    • Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.

    • Must be able to safely enter and exit the aerial device and rear-end of the bucket and derrick trucks.

    • Must be able to work efficiently and effectively from heights.

    • Must be able to meet and maintain weight restrictions for bucket trucks as identified by truck manufacturers.

    Education & Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

    Pre-Screen:

    • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

    License & Certifications:

    • A class A CDL is required.

    • Able to pass a DOT physical to obtain a DOT medical card.

    Travel Requirements

    • Willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work as needed.

    • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): Stooping, Squatting, Climbing On/Off Truck, Climbing Ladders, Pushing, Reading, Lifting to 50 lbs.

    • FREQUENT (up to 66%): Carrying, Pulling, Balancing, body-twisting, Hearing/Speech Range, Lifting, lifting to 10 lbs., Manual Dexterity, Speaking Clearly, Walking

    • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): Standing, Sense of Touch, Gripping, Seeing, Reaching, range-of-motion, Depth Perception, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., Climbing

    Safety

    Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.

    Due to traffic exposure, the employee may be required to have traffic flagging training.
