General Job Description
The position is within the Ports and Rail Engineering Group of the Civil Infrastructure Business based in London. The Group provides services to all business lines within Bechtel including Mining and Metals, Oil Gas and Chemicals as well as its parent business lines Civil Infrastructure and Rail. The Group's primary focus is to undertake feasibility studies for port and rail infrastructure to support projects around the globe. On completion of the feasibility and selection of the preferred option by our clients the Group performs the front end engineering design (FEED) before transitioning the detail design to one of our global execution centers.
 
Summary
This senior position will report directly to the Rail Infrastructure Engineerand will work within a team of rail related disciplines to support business development and the execution of studies and FEED for projects around the world.
 
Key Responsibilities
-      Design and/or review of all rail signalling systems both traditional block based and modern systems such CBTC/PTC etc. according to applicable standards, in close cooperation with the (potential) end users, in terms of commercial, architectural, operational, environmental and technical requirements in a timely and efficient manner;
-      Translate various design options into feasible solutions;
-      Assist in the development of proposals to customers
-      Plan, program and manage the resources applied such that agreed project objectives of quality, timeliness and profitability will be achieved
-      Support the development of expertise in our rail capabilities
Maintain and support ongoing business relationships with key clients and customers
 
Skills and Experiences
-      A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent plus relevant professional qualification;
-      Substantial experience in the railway sector, with proven international expertise in the design and delivery of various railway signalling systems
-      Previous experience in a consulting or contracting environment
-      Understanding of planning large railway signalling projects and knowledge of operational conditions affecting logistics and design
-      Sufficient understanding of the operational benefits and disadvantages of the various forms of signalling to make an informed choice for the specific project goals
-      Self starter with strong communication skills both verbal and written
-      the ability to lead a team of internal and external resources
-      the ability to work cooperatively within an interdisciplinary peer group
