This position is for an Electrical Supervising Designer performing electrical and power system designs on a nuclear project with work in the Southeastern United States with overall responsibility for the production of engineering deliverables required to complete construction of a nuclear power plant.
This individual will be working under the direction of a Project Engineer and/or senior engineering group supervisor. Responsibilities include the production of higher tier and conceptual drawings and documentation related to the design of electrical power distribution systems within the electrical discipline. This design will generally fall under the area of physical and/or electrical controls design.
In the area of physical design, examples of this documentation may include: * Layout drawings for electrical equipment * Cable tray and hangers * Underground duct banks * Above ground conduit and hangers * Lighting * Communications * Cathodic protection and grounding * Development of related calculations and material requisitions * Knowledge of hazardous areas classifications and design for electrical equipment
In the area of controls design, examples of this documentation include: * Logic diagrams * Schematics * Cable block diagrams and termination details * Familiarity with circuit breaker and motor control as well as electrical controls for plant mechanical equipment and systems * Development of related calculations and material requisitions
Job Knowledge * Knowledgeable in the applicable codes and standards with the industry and familiar with construction and startup practices. * Expertise with industry regulatory standards, and design criteria pertinent to the electrical discipline including conformance to Equipment Qualification (EQ), Electrical Separation and Appendix R. Duties include but are not limited to:
Planning, scoping, budgeting, and directing the work activity of a group of designers within the electrical discipline Provide technical direction of subordinates, subordinate annual reviews and development plans and on-the-job training of group personnel. May be responsible for the management of designs produced from a home/satellite design office Responsible for the production of specifications for electrical equipment in accordance with project requirements. Performs related technical evaluations of suppliers and review and approval of equipment design drawings. Performs Walk downs of existing plant equipment and generation of walk down packages. Must work effectively within and outside the Bechtel disciplines, the client organization, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Provides engineering support of design through plant construction and startup.
Basic Qualifications * Electrical Engineering Technology Degree (EET) or two year degree in a related science or extensive experience in design and drafting. * Minimum 15 years of practical design experience in electrical design within a related industry. * Candidates responding to this posting must currently possess the eligibility to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship. * Candidate must be capable of passing nuclear security screening requirements and be able to obtain an unescorted clearance to a nuclear power plant. * Candidate must have excellent written and verbal skills. * Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications * Electrical Engineering Technology Degree (EET). * Minimum 8 years of practical design experience within the power industry. * Experience in Computer Aided Design and Drafting
