POSITION TITLE:
Senior / Principal Energy Planning Consultant, Energy Strategic Consulting

REPORTS TO:
Operations Director – Energy Strategic Consulting

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide advice to businesses operating in the utility sector including asset owners, system operators, privately owned utility providers and regulating entities.

POSITION DIMENSIONS:



Brief Summary of Position:
PB provides high-level technical, commercial and regulatory services to clients in both the public and private energy sector in the UK and overseas markets. We offer our clients comprehensive services ranging from master plans, feasibility studies, strategic advice, company structure review, supply business review, market selling and purchasing strategy, through regulatory related services.
The position is for a consultant to provide services directly interfacing with clients to meet their requirements, and to fulfil the agreed scope of work to programme and to budget. This includes the preparation of well written reports and clear communication of issues and results.
The role also requires the consultant to take responsibility for the technical quality of deliverables, provide technical and commercial leadership and assist with the training and development of less experienced staff. The consultant will be expected to develop and maintain client relationships, and to assist with identifying, bidding and winning new work.
Experience:
Experience in two or more of the following areas in the electricity or possibly other utility sectors:-
* Load forecasting
* Feasibility studies
* Generation planning and modelling
* Masterplans (load, generation, transmission, distribution)
* Least-cost and cost benefit analysis
* Financial modelling of IPPs and utilities
* Investment appraisals
* Tariff studies
* Technically based regulation advice
* Renewables
* Interconnectors
* Training of Client’s staff
Plus experience in some of the following areas:-
* Company management
* Successful management of projects and teams
* Providing technical or commercial lead on projects
* Training, developing and mentoring staff
* Checking and peer reviewing the work of other staff
* Developing and maintaining client relationships
* Bidding and winning work
Clear articulation of complex issues to management or clients in both written and oral form.
Ideally the experience will have been partly gained in a non-academic environment.

* Track record in finding solutions to complex problems within deadlines
* Strong analytical capability with a thorough and accurate approach
* Excellent IT skills, with a good knowledge of Word, and Outlook and Excel.
* Must be fully fluent and able to work (communicate verbally and in writing) in English.
* Good inter-personal skills and experience of working with a wide range of people
* Ability to organise themselves and others, working to deadlines and prioritising workload for a set of simultaneous projects
* Willingness to develop into a broader range of work
* Flexibility to work in different roles for different clients both locally and worldwide
* Ability to develop staff and arrange a programme of succession training



PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

Experience/Knowledge:

Required:

Comprehensive knowledge of the economics related to utilities and the electricity, energy sectors.

Experience in the management of project teams with particular regard to the provision of leadership, vision and motivation of highly experienced professionals.

Advantageous:

Experience in consultancy and/or in management of electricity or perhaps other utility. In particular experience in forecasting, planning and analysis.

An understanding of the operations and maintenance of oil, gas, electricity, water and/or other utility systems.

Educational Qualifications:

Bachelor/Master or equivalent qualifications in economics, commercial or engineering discipline.
Eligible for membership of relevant professional Institutions or equivalent.
