Web Editor
Position Summary: The Web Editor’s role is to oversee the planning, authoring, editing and management of website content for www.gensler.com. The ideal candidate will understand how users interact with website content and have experience developing content strategy, writing and editing for the Web. This individual leads the effort in developing effective and tailored online communications covering a range of design services and markets.
The Web Editor ensures a high level of accuracy, consistency and relevance for Web content, while aligning message and communications strategies with the broader goals of the firm. This individual is responsible for the generation and publication of newly created content, as well as the compilation, review and editing of content culled from multiple sources. The Web Editor provides leadership to keep the website fresh by updating existing content, while looking ahead to new features, technologies and enhancements to the user experience.
This individual should possess the ability to seek out new content, both inside and outside of the firm. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required for interactions with multiple stakeholders including architects, designers, writers, web developers and company leadership.
Primary Responsibilities: • Analyze business cases and user needs and shape them into online content • Proactively reach out to firm leaders and business stakeholders to create content that reflects communications priorities • Translate offline marketing and editorial themes into messaging appropriate for online content • Identify internal and external resources for online content development • Ensure that all content is developed, reviewed, edited and published in a timely manner • Manage rotating thought leadership content, with special emphasis on the home page, updating other site section information as needed • Merge content from a variety of sources to create unified, appropriate content for upload • Coordinate with other teams and content creators within and outside the organization to maintain a steady feed of new content • Perform periodic competitive site analyses and benchmarking of content breadth, depth, organization and presentation • Work with interactive agency and in-house designers and developers to address ongoing development needs • Use a Web-based content management system to update, create and maintain pages • Working with the technical design team, define and implement strategies and supporting technologies to improve front-end user experience, site structure/information architecture and back-end technical resources • Ensure consistent adherence to branding, visual and style standards as well as compliance with applicable policies and legal requirements • Report on and provide regular analysis of website statistics, including recommendations that feed into a continuous improvement plan • Find, diagnose and address website problems, including broken links, typographical errors and formatting inconsistencies • Work with IT managers on hardware and software issues that affect the website and assess costs for site enhancements • Monitor, analyze and report on website traffic • Work with external vendors to deliver timely and cost-effective solutions
Requirements/Qualifications: • BS/BA in English, Journalism, Communications, or equivalent • Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills • Two to three years of experience in Web publishing and editing • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail • Ability to produce timely deliverables and manage multiple and shifting priorities in a dynamic environment • Ability to work independently, navigate and maintain productivity in a matrix environment • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) required • Demonstrable strategic thinking, influencing, problem solving and decision making skills • Strong customer service orientation, a team player with the ability to establish collaborative working relationships • Capacity to find creative, innovative solutions for simple or complex problems • Ability and commitment to learn about and communicate effectively the key messages about the firm and industry • Willingness to update skill sets as new opportunities arise
