BASIC FUNCTION This position will provide strategic direction, planning, oversight, management and accountability for product categories being pursued or managed. This position requires an individual to complete tasks and assignments in a timely but thorough manner in support of department goals.
SCOPE The Category Manager, who reports to the Senior Sourcing Manager, will lead multiple product categories and manage supplier relationships. Kiewit Corporation has an annual spend of $4-5 billion, a portion of which the Category Manager will have responsibility over.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop and maintain partnerships with suppliers to foster feedback and continuous improvement. • Research and provide information about global markets in assigned categories. • Manage and support scope assessment, financial and data analysis, negotiations, and the contracting process for assigned categories. • Identify and analyze exposure to category and logistical risks. • Supplier relationship management, including contract compliance and performance. • Coordination of communication on category issues. • Participation in corporate, business unit (district) and job procurement activities including meetings, training and sourcing projects. • Forecasting and reporting results by job, area, and business unit (district). • Document cost savings and process benefits related to preferred supplier programs. • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS • Proven category management knowledge, with an understanding of what impacts various categories. • Strategic sourcing experience, with a strong understanding of and comfort with the strategic sourcing process. • Ability to work successfully in a decentralized purchasing environment. • Ability to use an ERP system for procurement practices. • Understanding of supplier management, with a solid background in supplier performance management metrics or supplier relationship management. • Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to motivate people, manage resources effectively and work with business partners to achieve goals in aggressive timelines.
